
Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the murder of a student of the University of Cape Coast.
The suspect, identified as Michael Mensah, was arrested on Sunday evening at Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast following what police described as sustained intelligence led operations.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the arrest was carried out by the Inspector General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team at about 7:15pm on 15th June 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim, Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, was picked up by the suspect from Ayensu Plaza within the University of Cape Coast hostel enclave on 11th June at about 6:48pm.
Police said the suspect, who claims to be a teacher and also works as a driver, allegedly took the student to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
