The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) carried out planned maintenance on Sunday, March 22, 2026, affecting several communities within the Accra East operational area. The maintenance work was scheduled between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and was intended to improve service delivery and strengthen the reliability of the electricity network.
According to ECG, the maintenance exercise required temporary power interruptions in a number of residential and commercial locations across the region. Communities affected during the scheduled work included Baatsona, Teshie Township, Teshie Nungua, GREDA Estate, Spintex Road industrial areas, Teshie Agblezaa, Manet Estate, Kotoku, Medie, Blue Skies, and Hebron.
In addition to the planned maintenance in the Accra East area, several communities within the Tema Region experienced power interruptions caused by unexpected faults in the electricity network. Areas affected by these faults included Bankuman, Abonko, U-Compound, Naval Base, and its surrounding residential quarters, as well as Adjetey Ansah.
Other parts of the country also experienced outages around the same period. In the Atomic Area, an unplanned blackout occurred after a transformer was burnt near the Atomic Down Roundabout. The incident disrupted power supply to nearby communities, including Atomic Down and the Regimanuel Unity Gate area.
Meanwhile, several communities in the Volta Region were also affected by electricity outages after damage to an underground cable disrupted supply. Communities impacted included Tokor, Afiadenyigba, Atiteti, Ave towns, Agbozume, Anlo, Nakyikope, and Dzodze.
The Electricity Company of Ghana has indicated that maintenance work and technical repairs are part of ongoing efforts to improve network stability and reduce the frequency of outages across the country. Residents in affected communities are typically advised to switch off electrical appliances during outages and to report faults to ECG through official channels for prompt response.
