During a recent visit to Nkwanta, a district facing escalating security concerns, the National Security Coordinator, DCOP Osman Abdul Razak, emphasized the need for a unified and specialized response to violence stemming from chieftaincy and land disputes.
The visit followed a series of violent incidents, including attacks on security and private vehicles, which have heightened concerns and prompted urgent intervention from security agencies.
In his address, DCOP Abdul Razak highlighted the alarming frequency of violence linked to land and chieftaincy disputes, stressing that these conflicts have evolved into outright criminal acts, endangering lives and public safety.
“This is no longer just a dispute; it is a serious crime, with innocent citizens and security personnel being targeted,” he stated, underlining the severity of the situation and vowing a firm response.
Acknowledging that traditional security measures alone would not suffice, the Coordinator called for enhanced collaboration among security agencies to effectively tackle the crisis.
“We must adopt a unified approach, free of discrimination, to restore peace and stability,” he stressed, urging coordinated efforts across all security units.
DCOP Abdul Razak also issued a stern warning to those involved in violent activities, making it clear that criminal actions would not be tolerated.
“Chieftaincy disputes should be resolved through appropriate legal channels. Resorting to violence will not be condoned, and perpetrators will face the full force of the law,” he warned.
He further assured that thorough investigations would be conducted to ensure transparency and accountability, reinforcing the commitment to justice.
Responding to concerns raised by local officials about the financial burden of security operations, the National Security Coordinator assured that the government would cover the costs of troop deployments and security measures.
“We understand the financial challenges and are committed to absorbing the costs to ensure peace and security,” he affirmed, adding that any outstanding debts related to past security efforts would also be addressed.
Regarding proposals for a permanent security presence in the district, DCOP Abdul Razak acknowledged the unique challenges facing Nkwanta and indicated that the establishment of a security base would be considered.
“We will carefully assess the feasibility of setting up a regular security camp, ensuring it aligns with democratic principles while addressing security needs,” he stated.
The visit concluded with a strong call for unity and cooperation in tackling the region’s security challenges. The National Security Coordinator reassured residents of the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace.
“I will stand with you in this fight. Together, we will overcome these challenges,” he concluded, reaffirming his personal dedication to resolving the crisis and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
As Nkwanta continues to grapple with security challenges, the government’s commitment to proactive measures, financial support, and collaboration with local authorities aims to bring lasting peace and stability to the region.
