Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refuted accusations of misappropriation of Coronavirus funds obtained by his government during the pandemic.

A report released this year by the Auditor-General states that over $80 million worth of vaccines have yet to be delivered.

Furthermore, only $38 million worth of vaccines was delivered from over $120 million the government paid to UNICEF and African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT).

“Amount paid by Ghana to UNICEF/AVAT for vaccines was $120,192,379.80 on behalf of the Ministry of Health.

A difference of US$81,870,379.00 with UNICEF/AVAT is caused by the supply of 5,109,600.00 doses of vaccines to the National Cold Room valued at $38,322,000.00

“Unicef/AVAT should be renegotiated with by the Ministry of Health’s Chief Director, the report recommended.

Nana Addo said his government did nothing dishonorable with COVID-19 funds in his State of the Nation Address in Parliament today.

He declared that the COVID-19 funds [COVID funds] were not misused according to “it is important to show clearly that the funds were not misused.

It is crucial to not lose the people’s trust by letting them believe the crisis they deemed to be a common cause was exploited for personal gains.”

“As I can assure the House, nothing dishonorable was done with COVID funds, since it was the government that requested the audit. Upon examination of the responses from the Health and Finance Ministries on January 23rd and 25th, 2023 respectively, I believe this conclusion will be justified by an objective examination of these statements by the Ministry of Health and Finance”, the President said.
