NPP arrested me- MEDIKAL

Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has recounted a troubling experience of being arrested and detained by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under unclear circumstances.

In 2021, Medikal was apprehended by the Ghana Police Service for displaying a firearm in a social media video. Reflecting on the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), the rapper recalled how his lawyers’ attempts to engage with authorities were dismissed with the phrase, “It’s an order from above.”

Medikal’s arrest led to his detention at the Ankafu Maximum Security Prison, an experience he attributes to what he perceives as the NPP’s misuse of power.

His remarks come shortly after the declaration of John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, as the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election.

In his post, Medikal expressed cautious optimism about the incoming administration, stating, “I do not trust him, but rather believe in him.”

The rapper urged President-elect Mahama to bring transformative change to Ghana, emphasizing the need for a brighter future for the nation’s youth, including Sharaf, Mahama’s son, whom Medikal mentioned as a friend.
