The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana has announced they will hold their presidential primary on November 4th to select a candidate to succeed current President Nana Akufo-Addo. Akufo-Addo, who has served as president since 2017, is not eligible to run for re-election due to term limits.

The General Secretary of the party made the announcement after their executive meeting. Meanwhile, the party chair has a press conference scheduled for April 4, 2023. He stated the party is committed to ensuring a smooth and transparent primary process that will lead to the selection of a strong candidate who can lead the party to victory in the 2024 presidential election.

In addition to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen, several candidates have already announced their candidacy for the upcoming nominations.

The NPP has been in power since winning the 2016 presidential election. The party faces stiff competition from the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the upcoming election. The selection of a strong candidate to lead the NPP will be crucial in determining the party’s chances of retaining power in 2024.
