During the first Asanteman Traditional Council meeting for the year, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has removed the queen mother of the Offinso Traditional Area, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko from her position.
The decision to destool Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko was made due to her persistent refusal to appear before Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who had summoned her in connection to alleged misbehavior.
In response to her absence and defiance, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II instructed the newly appointed Offinso chief, Nana Dwamena Akenteng II, on Thursday, January 11, to find a new queen mother who would be tasked with upholding the throne.
The vacancy for the queen mother arose following the passing of Nana Wiafe Akenten III in October 2021, leading to protests and disputes among kingmakers regarding the nomination of the new chief. This discord triggered the Offinso stool debate.
