With the cloud of COVID-19, which loomed over Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022, having dissipated, the lead-up to the 2024 Olympiad in Paris (the “Paris Games”) is being hailed as the best by the African Region.

The city of Paris faces the significant responsibility of hosting the world’s largest multi-sport international event, which will attract thousands of participants, support personnel, officials, media representatives, and spectators.

In a bid to capitalize on the opportunities available for teams in the pre-games camp, the city of Argenteuil has signed an MOU with the Ghana Paralympic Committee to support the Ghana Wheelchair Tennis team through its qualification and pre-games preparation.

“We are happy to host the Ghana Wheelchair Tennis team in our city. This arrangement will be available to the team before, during, and after the Paralympic Games as an exchange between the two countries,” said Georges Mothron, Mayor of Argenteuil.

The Ghana Wheelchair Tennis team is participating in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games pre-games training camp, facilitated by the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana with support from the Mayor of Argenteuil and the government of France.

The national team, comprising two women, Bridget Nartey and Stacy Konadu Mensah, and two men, Daniel Laryea and Bernard Yawson, is currently training at the Argenteuil Henri Burg Tennis Centre near Paris, France. Their unwavering dedication and hard work are truly inspiring, serving as a beacon of commitment in the world of sports.

The two-week residential training camp, which began on July 15 and concluded on July 28, 2024, was an intense period of preparation. Led by National Wheelchair Tennis Coach Yahya Macaulay, with support from Henry Larbi, the National Coordinator of the Ghana Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis, the team left no stone unturned in their quest for excellence.

The team is now awaiting qualification confirmation from the ITF and IPC, expected by August 5, 2024.
