Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin expressed reservations about hastily endorsing Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s 2024 budget presentation. Stressing the importance of a thorough review and due diligence process before approving the documents, Bagbin addressed the need for careful attention to the budget during a post-budget workshop in Parliament.

Bagbin called on Members of Parliament to prioritize the interests of the people they represent, recognizing the vital role of Parliament in safeguarding the country’s welfare.

While addressing fellow parliamentarians, Bagbin emphasized the critical nature of the budget, urging them to take their time in deliberating on it. He acknowledged that although parliamentary proceedings might seem routine, the current budget holds exceptional significance. Bagbin encouraged MPs to refrain from making purely political statements or engaging in propaganda, urging them to listen to the voices of the people and conduct a thorough analysis of the budget.

During a speech to Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta highlighted that the economy is projected to grow from GH¢219.5 billion in 2016 to a historic GH¢1 trillion in 2024. He further mentioned that, due to the improved economic conditions, inflation has started to decrease.
