Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has underscored the Legislature’s crucial role in governance, asserting that it is an indispensable pillar of Ghana’s democracy.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Job 600 building in Accra on Tuesday, October 29, Bagbin highlighted the importance of Parliament as a “mirror of democracy,” deserving full support and recognition. “If democratic governance is to truly benefit the people, Parliament—which embodies democracy—must be empowered. Beyond lawmaking, Parliament is uniquely responsible for oversight, ensuring that our collective resources, energy, and trust are directed to benefit all,” he stated.

Bagbin emphasized that Parliament embodies core democratic values such as representation, accountability, and governance, serving as the people’s voice and holding the government to account. “Strengthening Parliament is not solely Parliament’s duty but a collective responsibility. We must all work together to ensure our citizens do not labor in vain to elect us,” he added.

The Speaker further called on stakeholders and all Ghanaians to support and respect the institution’s essential role in shaping the nation’s democratic framework, advocating for strengthening Parliament across its departments.
