PEPC Commences Presidential Election Hearing

ng

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has begun hearing the five petitions seeking to nullify the outcome of the 2023 presidential election. At the opening session, the five-member panel of justices was introduced, and it was revealed that the presiding justice would be Justice Haruna Tsammani of the Abuja Court of Appeal.

However, the Action Alliance (AA) has withdrawn its petition against the INEC and the President-elect, Bola Tinubu. The court has barred Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State from representing Tinubu before it. The presiding judge, Justice Tsammani, urged lawyers representing all the petitioners to avoid sensational comments and unnecessary technicalities, stressing that the court’s interest is in the country’s safety and well-being.

The court said it would only conduct pre-hearing sessions on three of the petitions, and the remaining petitions would be heard the following day.
