On Thursday, October 26th, the police arrested a suspect named Ibrahim Iddrissu Shummah, who had been captured in a viral video making threats to disrupt and prevent individuals from participating in the upcoming Flag Bearer Elections of the New Patriotic Party in the Assin Central Constituency. The suspect is currently in police custody, where he is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called upon the Ghana Police Service to ensure that their presidential primary elections, scheduled for November 4, 2023, remain free from violence. The governing party has urged the police to take all necessary measures against anyone found engaging in any misconduct during the elections.

During a meeting between the NPP Presidential Election Committee and the Ghana Police Service to finalize the election procedures, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, the Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential Election Committee, advised the police to take decisive action against individuals involved in any wrongdoing during the elections. He emphasized that the party would fully support law enforcement in arresting and prosecuting those responsible for any misconduct.

“We are authorizing you to take absolute control of all the processes that you regulate during normal elections in this republic. We have established guidelines that have the consensus of all parties involved, and we have worked out the procedures in such a way that we are collaborating. We want to make it clear that the rules and regulations that all the candidates have agreed upon will be the foundation of the process. Anyone who disregards these rules should face consequences, and we want to emphasize that this nation operates under the rule of law,” he stated.
