President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has affirmed that Ghana’s pursuit of balance of payment assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has yielded positive outcomes. He credits the recent decrease in inflation rates and the stability of the local currency to the support received through the IMF program.
During a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo expressed contentment with the results achieved through the bailout. He highlighted that the decision made in July 2022 to seek IMF assistance amid challenging economic conditions has proven beneficial, leading to a notable turnaround in Ghana’s economic landscape.
Akufo-Addo emphasized the critical importance of maintaining a delicate equilibrium between fulfilling the needs and aspirations of Ghanaians while adhering to the stipulations of the IMF’s 3-year extended credit program. He stressed the necessity of this balance, especially with Ghana approaching the December 7 general election, underscoring the significance of upholding both economic discipline and the welfare of the citizenry.
