On Monday, October 16, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to embark on a tour of communities affected by the inundation caused by the release of excess water from the Akosombo Dam.

This tour follows the President’s establishment of a nine-member inter-ministerial committee, led by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, responsible for coordinating the distribution of relief supplies to those affected by the flooding.

The spillage from the Akosombo Dam has resulted in the displacement of thousands of residents in the Central and North Tongu areas of the Volta Region.

During his visit, the President is expected to engage with the affected residents and community leaders and subsequently make a significant government announcement to address the situation.

The inter-ministerial committee, chaired by Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, consists of the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah; the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery; the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul; the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh; the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta; the Minister of Local Government, Daniel Kwaku Botwe; the Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye; the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah; the Minister for Environment, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie; the Minister for Sanitation, Freda Prempeh; the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor; and the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
