Under the leadership of Dr. Francis Wuobar, the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at the Eastern Regional Hospital achieved a successful caesarean section delivery of quadruplets within one hour. This remarkable feat resulted in the birth of two boys and two girls, each with weights ranging from 1.4kg to 1.9kg. Notably, this occurrence of quadruplets through natural conception has odds of 1 in 5,000, making it an exceptionally rare event.
The parents of these quadruplets, both farmers hailing from Owurakese near Asamankese in the region, were overjoyed by the birth of their babies. However, they also expressed concerns about the challenges of providing for and raising these four newborns.
Both the mother and the babies are currently in good health and are in the process of recovering. The successful surgical team included Obstetrician Gynaecologists, pediatricians, Midwives from the Designated Assessment Resuscitation Team, Anesthetists, and a dedicated Theatre team.
