Asante Akim South NPP parliamentary aspirant, Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour, has suggested that a perceived decrease in votes during the 2020 General Election in the constituency was due to President Akufo Addo’s purported failure to visit. Obour, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen program, claimed that the absence of a rally with the Presidential candidate in attendance impacted voter enthusiasm, contrasting this with his opponent’s two visits.
However, upon investigation, it was revealed that Obour’s claims were unfounded. President Akufo Addo did visit Asante Akim South on September 27, 2020, inspecting key projects and commissioning a 12-unit classroom block at Juaso SHS. This contradicts Obour’s assertion of a lack of presidential engagement, as the President actively participated in local initiatives, showcasing commitment to the constituency’s development.
Obour’s statement, which implied neglect by President Akufo Addo, appears inaccurate given the verified facts of the President’s substantive visit and involvement in various projects within Asante Akim South. The allegations of reduced voter support attributed to the President’s purported absence from the constituency seem unfounded in light of the documented activities during his visit.
