Residents rush to scoop fuel from a fallen tanker in Obosomase

Capture
Residents of Obosomase and surrounding communities braved the risks associated with a fuel tanker accident on Wednesday morning. In a rush, they scooped up petroleum products gushing from a crashed tanker.

At Obosomase, a diesel tanker traveling towards Mamfe was involved in an accident as it climbed the steep hill.

At the top of the hill, eyewitnesses observed the DAF tanker truck, with registration number GW 1077 W, slowing down, stopping and reversing.

When he stopped near the tip of the hill and started reversing he said he had missed the gears and could not control the vehicle.

When the driver attempted to halt the vehicle, the brakes did not work.

The driver swerved onto the shoulders of the road after seeing danger and other vehicles behind the truck. As a result, one of the top covers of the container opened with the product spilling out.
