Sadick Adams, a former Ghana U-17 star, has officially retired from professional football following a successful 16-year career.
In a heartfelt Facebook message, the 33-year-old expressed gratitude to the clubs he played for, his coaches, and his teammates.
“Today is challenging for me, but it is also an opportunity for reflection and appreciation. Representing these various clubs throughout my football journey has been an incredible honor. With a sense of sadness but no regrets, I can no longer meet the unwavering standards of excellence that professional football demands,” Adams wrote.
“I deeply love football, and I firmly believe there is only one acceptable way to play. I have retired because I can no longer compete at a level that aligns with my standards. Although I know this decision will not bring me happiness, I consider it the right and honorable course of action at this stage of my life. I have cherished every moment of my football career, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have played the game for as long as I did,”
Adams began his career on a promising note, making significant contributions to the Ghana U-17 team that secured a fourth-place finish in the 2007 U-17 World Cup. He netted four goals, including one in the semi-final defeat to Spain.
His performances led to a move from AshantiGold to Atletico Madrid, where he played for the B team alongside notable players such as Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
However, he faced challenges in breaking into Atletico’s first team. Subsequently, he had stints at FK Vojvodina in Serbia, Étoile du Sahel and Hammam-Sousse in Tunisia, Al-Ansar, Berekum Chelsea, Al-Nahda, Al-Feiha, Turk Ocagi, Asante Kotoko, Shabab Bourj, and Arambagh KS.
Throughout his career, Adams represented a total of 14 different clubs.
One of his standout moments occurred in the 2017 MTN FA Cup final, where he scored a memorable hat-trick, leading Kotoko to a 3-1 victory over bitter rivals Hearts of Oak and securing the trophy in Tamale.
Following his impressive performances at the U-17 level, Adams received call-ups to the U-20 team Black Satellites and made a few appearances for the Black Stars.
