Seven firefighters were injured in a catastrophic accident on Sunday, July 22, 2024, involving a fire engine responding to an emergency call in the Eastern Region.
The team was traveling to Otwenkwanta when the incident occurred at Adankrono in response to a fuel truck that had gone off the road.
At around 8:37 AM, the emergency call was received, and the firefighters were dispatched immediately. Unfortunately, their fire engine (registration FS 438) was involved in an accident while negotiating a bend near the Gaso fueling station.
According to a preliminary assessment by the Ghana National Fire Service, the crash might have been caused by a steering lock problem.
Of the eight firefighters on board, one managed to escape injury. The injured firefighters were transported to two hospitals: the driver and duty officer to Kade Government Hospital, and five firefighters to St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia.
Reports indicate that the seven injured firefighters are all in stable condition and recovering quickly.
