Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, the wife of former Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, disclosed that she had repeatedly urged her husband to resign as Vice President of Ghana. However, she later recognized the significance of his voice within the government and the potential void that would arise if he were to step down.

During an interview with Joy News on June 29, 2023, commemorating the 5th anniversary of her husband’s passing, Matilda expressed, “I advised him to resign many times. But upon reflection, I realized his departure would leave a void in expressing the opinions he holds. So, he should remain, even if his words are disregarded, and continue making a difference.”

She emphasized the importance of Amissah Arthur’s presence in the government, advocating for righteous causes and ensuring the country’s alignment with the right path.

Kwesi Amissah-Arthur tragically passed away on June 29, 2018, after collapsing during a workout session at the Airforce Gym in Accra. He was immediately taken to the 37 Military Hospital, where he died.

Born on April 29, 1951, Amissah Arthur was an economist, academic, and politician who served as Ghana’s sixth Vice-President from August 6, 2012, until January 7, 2017, under former President John Mahama. Before that, he was Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.
