Six present letter of credence to President Akufo-Addo

On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo officially received the letters of credence from six new Ambassadors and High Commissioners in a brief presentation ceremony to mark the commencement of their diplomatic service in Ghana, held at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The newly appointed diplomats are as follows:

  1. H.E. David Kabre from Burkina Faso
  2. H.E. Rosa Liliana Gomez Cardenas De Weston from Peru
  3. H.E. Daniel Mahongo from Zambia
  4. H.E. Kittisak Klomchit from Thailand
  5. H.E. Andrew Augustus Wilson from The Bahamas
  6. H.E. Amaury Justo Duarte from the Dominican Republic

During their interactions with President Akufo-Addo, the diplomats expressed their commitment to strengthen diplomatic relations and cooperation between their respective countries and Ghana. Here are some of the key highlights from their statements:

  • H.E. David Kabre of Burkina Faso pledged to deepen the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Burkina Faso by resuming joint cooperation committees, continuing negotiations on railway interconnection projects, and the Bolgatanga-Po pipeline project. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening military and security cooperation to combat terrorism.
  • H.E. Rosa Liliana Gomez Cardenas De Weston of Peru conveyed her willingness to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to establish political consultations, which would identify key areas of cooperation between Peru and Ghana.
  • H.E. Daniel Mahongo of Zambia promised to leverage existing ties between the two countries, which were further strengthened by the recent state visit of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.
  • H.E. Kittisak Klomchit of Thailand offered to support Ghana’s efforts in rice cultivation to reduce the country’s dependence on rice imports.
  • H.E. Andrew Augustus Wilson of The Bahamas highlighted the shared historical struggles for self-determination, sovereignty, identity, and reparatory justice, which form the basis of the strong cultural and diplomatic connection between The Bahamas and Ghana.
  • H.E. Amaury Justo Duarte, representing the Dominican Republic, mentioned the continued efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries and commemorated the 4th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. He emphasized their shared history of fighting for independence and democracy.

In response, President Akufo-Addo assured the ambassadors and high commissioners of even deeper ties of support, collaboration, and people-to-people engagement. He expressed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and wished them success in their diplomatic missions.
