Many Ghanaians have expressed disappointment over the decision to lift the suspension of four Members of Parliament (MPs) who were sanctioned by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

The four MPs—Frank Annoh Dompreh, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, and Alhassan Tampuli—were initially suspended for their alleged unruly behavior during parliamentary proceedings. Speaker Bagbin deemed their actions disorderly and dishonorable, leading to their removal from parliamentary sittings for two weeks.

However, the Minority in Parliament strongly opposed the decision, arguing that the Speaker had overstepped his powers. Some Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) also called for a reconsideration of the suspension.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Speaker Bagbin, during parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, February 4, announced his decision to lift the suspension. This allows the four MPs to resume their parliamentary duties, including their roles on the Appointments Committee.

Despite the reversal, many Ghanaians insist that MPs must exhibit decorum, respect, patriotism, and emotional intelligence in their conduct to uphold the integrity of Parliament.
