The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed plans to secure one final international friendly for the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

According to the association, the additional warm-up match is being targeted for the June 2 to June 10, 2026 international window, shortly before the Black Stars officially report to their World Cup training base.

The final friendly was reportedly requested by head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical team as part of Ghana’s last phase of tournament preparations.

The coaching staff intends to use the game to make final evaluations before submitting the squad’s definitive 26-man roster to FIFA. Officials say the match will provide one final opportunity to assess players competing for the remaining spots on the World Cup squad.

Beyond player selection, the technical team also plans to use the fixture to test alternative tactical systems and defensive setups under competitive match conditions. The game is also expected to help improve chemistry between key positional pairings, particularly in midfield and attack.

Ghana has already scheduled several high-profile warm-up matches as part of an extensive World Cup preparation campaign across Europe and North America.

The Black Stars began their preparations in March with difficult fixtures against Austria national football team and Germany national football team. Ghana suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat to Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna on March 27 before narrowly losing 2–1 to Germany three days later.

The team is next scheduled to face Mexico national football team on May 22 at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla before taking on Wales national football team at Cardiff City Stadium on June 2.

The GFA says discussions are ongoing to finalize the identity of the final opponent and venue for the additional friendly.

Ghana enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup facing a challenging Group L draw that will see the team play matches across multiple North American cities.

The Black Stars will open their campaign on June 17 against Panama national football team at BMO Field in Toronto. They will then face England national football team on June 23 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough near Boston before concluding the group stage against Croatia national football team on June 27 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

GFA officials say the demanding travel schedule and strength of Ghana’s group opponents have made comprehensive preparation a top priority ahead of the tournament.
