The grand architectural masterpiece at the heart of the capital is set to become a symbol of Ghana’s economic vitality and a beacon of financial innovation.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo hailed the new Bank of Ghana headquarters as a testament to the institution’s enduring significance and its commitment to advancing Ghana’s financial sector. He highlighted the pivotal role the Bank has played since its establishment in 1957, coinciding with the dawn of Ghana’s independence, in safeguarding monetary stability and fostering economic resilience.
“The Bank Square is more than just a building,” President Akufo-Addo remarked. “It is a declaration of intent—a reflection of our institutions’ resilience and the aspirations of our people.” He described the facility as a hub for financial innovation, policy collaboration, and sustainability, featuring state-of-the-art technologies and eco-friendly designs that underscore Ghana’s dedication to responsible and future-focused development.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the decision to build a new headquarters was necessitated by the growing demands on the Bank of Ghana over its six-decade journey. While the old headquarters held historical value, it could no longer meet the complexities of modern operations. The new edifice, designed by the renowned Ghanaian architectural firm GoldKey Properties under Kwaku Bediako’s leadership, heralds a transformative chapter for the Bank and the nation.
The Bank Square symbolizes more than just institutional progress; it represents Ghana’s ambitions to emerge as a regional financial hub. With facilities that meet international standards, the complex is poised to enhance the Bank’s capacity to implement reforms, strengthen regulatory frameworks, and attract global investments.
The President expressed profound gratitude to Governor Ernest Addison, Deputy Governors Maxwell Opoku-Afari and Elsie Awadzi, and the entire Bank of Ghana staff for their professionalism and dedication. He also commended the architects, engineers, and contractors for their creativity and expertise in bringing this iconic structure to life.
“This structure, built by Ghanaians for Ghanaians, is a source of immense pride,” President Akufo-Addo said. He called on all stakeholders to draw inspiration from The Bank Square as they continue to work towards building a stable, inclusive, and prosperous economy.
Concluding his address, President Akufo-Addo officially declared The Bank Square open, expressing hope that it would serve as a symbol of excellence and inspire future generations to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s progress. As the new headquarters begins operations, it stands as a powerful emblem of the nation’s collective aspiration for economic growth, stability, and resilience.
