Dismissal of contempt suit against Ablakwa

The High Court in Accra has thrown out the contempt charge against Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, by Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng. Justice Charles Gyamfi Dankwah stated that the suit was improperly served on Ablakwa, and the bailiff who served the writ was not an authorized judiciary staff. The court added that the evidence presented by Rev. Kusi Boateng was inconsistent, and the applicant failed to prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Judge emphasized that the proper processes should have been followed in serving the MP, as he claimed he was en route to parliament when the attempt was made. Notably, in 2021, the Chief Justice directed that only certified bailiffs are authorized to serve writs. Furthermore, the court ordered Rev. Kusi Boateng to pay a cost of ¢10,000.
