The Obetsebi-Lamptey interchange project is not abandoned

Despite the temporary suspension of the $135 million Obetsebi-Lamptey interchange in Accra, the Minister of Roads and Highways has clarified it has not been abandoned. He made this statement to the media during an inspection tour of road projects in Accra on April 19, 2023. Amoako-Atta emphasized that any impression of abandonment was “erroneous” and explained that the beach road project had been paused to re-align and address specific issues.

The project involves widening the Ring Road West into a three-lane dual carriageway, constructing a three-tier interchange at Obetsebi Lamptey Circle and a Graphic Road flyover, and building a Kaneshie flyover. Antwi Owusu Sekyere, Resident Engineer for FAS Consult Limited, explained the project was temporarily suspended because of the government’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
