Three Dead, Two Injured in Multi-Truck Collision at Akyem Asafo

Three people lost their lives and two others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident that occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 12, 2025, at Akyem Asafo in the Eastern Region.

The fatal crash took place along the busy Kumasi-Accra highway and involved three heavy-duty trucks. Eyewitnesses reported that a DAF trailer, registered 6294-11 and loaded with bags of cocoa, had broken down and was left stationary in the middle of the road.

While approaching the disabled vehicle, a Scania truck with registration number GS 6429-11 and a Howo tipper truck (registration number unconfirmed) collided with the DAF trailer. The collision was reportedly severe, resulting in the immediate deaths of the Scania driver and two female passengers, believed to be traders.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, attending to the injured and conveying the deceased to a nearby medical facility. The two injured individuals are currently receiving treatment.

Authorities are investigating the incident, with a focus on determining whether proper safety protocols were followed in marking the stationary trailer.
