Togbe Afede XIV visits communities affected by the flood

Togbe Afede XIV, the Paramount Chief of Asogli, expressed deep concern over the devastating flood caused by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam in Ghana. During his visit to affected communities, he showed sympathy for the victims and emphasized the interconnectedness of the people in the Volta Region and the country as a whole. He acknowledged the hardship faced by those who lost their homes and property due to the flooding and recognized the significant impact on their lives.

 

Togbe Afede XIV pointed out that the flooding could have been avoided and highlighted the dire situation in people’s homes and the long-lasting effects of stagnant water on the affected communities. He mentioned the disruption of daily activities such as schooling and working and the adverse impact on people’s well-being.

 

The Paramount Chief called on all Ghanaians to support the affected individuals in any way possible and stressed the importance of taking the situation seriously. He also promised to contribute to the fund created by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area and the local chiefs, donating GH¢100,000 towards it.

 

Togbe Afede XIV urged the Volta River Authority (VRA) to better monitor and manage the flow of water into the dam, including predicting and planning for different scenarios. He also suggested that the condition of the estuary should be assessed and considered in flood prevention and management strategies. His visit and comments reflect a strong commitment to helping the affected communities and improving flood control measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
