On Wednesday, Tori Bowie’s management company confirmed that the former Olympic and world champion sprinter had passed away at 32. The local sheriff’s department found her at her home in Orlando, Florida, during a well-being check after she had not been seen for days. The department is not treating her death as suspicious.

Bowie won three gold medals on the global stage. She won her first gold as part of the USA 4x100m team at the 2016 Olympics, and she added another relay gold and individual gold in the 100m at the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London. She also won silver and bronze medals in the 100m and 200m at the Olympics in 2016.

Born and raised in Mississippi, Bowie initially played basketball before track, which became apparent. She won state titles in 100m, 200m, and long jump. After obtaining an athletic scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi, she won national titles in indoor and outdoor long jump in 2011. She later focused on sprinting in 2014, but returned to the long jump in 2019, and finished fourth at the world championships. Bowie did not qualify for the US team at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Tori Bowie’s coaches remembered her as a fun, and enthusiastic personality. Despite being raised in a small town with fewer than 100 people, Bowie’s talent propelled her to the global stage, and she hoped Sand Hill would be known as the home of Tori Bowie.
