Transport Fare Reduction

Starting Wednesday, May 17, 2023, transport operators have announced a universal reduction of 10 percent in transport fares. This decision was communicated through a statement jointly signed by Mr. Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and Mr. Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC). The operators have taken this step to align with the “Administrative Arrangement on Public Transport Fares,” considering the recent decrease in petroleum prices.

The revised fares will apply to shared taxis, intra-city (trotro) vehicles, intercity (long-distance buses), and haulage vehicles. In adherence to the new foods, the statement advises all commercial transport operators to display the updated prices prominently at their loading terminals.
“We kindly urge all operators, commuters, and the public to cooperate in successfully implementing the new fares,” the statement further emphasizes the public.

Previously, fuel prices had surged in November of the preceding year, reaching over Gh¢23 per liter for diesel and nearly Gh¢18 per liter for petrol. However, because of a substantial decline in global crude oil and refined product prices, diesel and gasoline are sold at Gh¢12.64 per liter. It is anticipated prices will continue to decrease starting from Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
