The Regional Minister of Upper West, r Hafiz Bin Salih, deviated from his official convoy protocol to rescue a four-year-old child involved in an accident. While returning from official duty in Jirapa, the Minister came across the accident scene on the Wa Insurance Road and halted his convoy to help the injured child, much to the amazement of onlookers.

According to Cletus Awuni, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, the victim, Fatawu Ibrahim, from Dondoli, a suburb of Wa, was hit by a motorbike while attempting to cross the road on his way back from school. The motorcyclist could not offer much help until the Minister and his entourage arrived from Jirapa, where he had just commissioned the new Jirapa Traditional Council building.

“Dr. Salih stopped his vehicle and promptly rushed the young boy to the hospital for treatment,” said Mr. Awuni. “The Minister stayed at the hospital for nearly an hour, ensuring the child received proper medical care before departing for his office.”

Mr. Awuni also mentioned that before leaving the hospital, the Minister entrusted the child’s care to the Upper West Regional Director of Education, Razak Abdul-Korah, who later visited the hospital. When the Minister inquired about the motorcyclist, the people at the accident scene initially tried to shield him, but after persistent questioning, the motorcyclist eventually confessed and was subsequently arrested.

Meanwhile, Mr. Abdul-Korah confirmed the child’s parents were contacted, and the child has since been discharged from the hospital and recovering well.

Some witnesses at the accident scene commended the Minister for his display of compassion and humanity, noting that it was rare for a government official to attend to accident victims personally, let alone escort them to the hospital.
