Vice President Dr. Bawumia and his spouse, Hajia Samira Bawumia, extended their condolences to the family of their deceased bodyguard, Fuseini Mumuni, in a solemn visit. The couple attended a Janazah (funeral) prayer on Sunday, January 14, 2024, before the burial at the Madina Muslim Cemetery.

Accompanied by leading government officials, including Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Sammi Awuku, and Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei Opare, they visited the bereaved family’s home in Nima.

Expressing deep sympathy, Vice President Bawumia and Hajia Samira Bawumia offered sincere condolences to the grieving family. The tragic incident occurred near Nobewam, along the Kumasi-Accra highway, as confirmed by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). In response to the distress call, the Konongo-Odumasi Fire Station promptly dispatched a team to the scene.

Preliminary investigations by the GNFS revealed that eight people, including the second lady, Samira Bawumia, were injured in the crash. The GNFS rescue team, led by STNO II Odjer Jonathan, arrived at the crash site around 1:12 pm.

The accident involved a Mercedes Benz C180 (NR-1977-18), a Toyota Land Cruiser (GC-9094-21), a Toyota Land Cruiser (VR-2105-15), and a Benz Sprinter bus (GE-7256-14). Fortunately, four victims had already been rescued by bystanders and were en route to the hospital for emergency care.

While the Toyota Land Cruisers (GC-9094-21) and (VR-2105-15) sustained partial damage to their rear sections, the Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus and the Mercedes Benz C180 suffered significant damage to their engine compartments and windows.

Details regarding the specific type and extent of the victims’ injuries are not yet available. The police continue to seek information to piece together the events leading up to the tragic accident as part of their ongoing investigation.
