Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has stated that individuals affected by the Akosombo Dam Spillage are yet to witness the benefits of the government’s GHC80 million allocation.

During the 67th Independence Day celebration in Koforidua, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reassured the government’s commitment to assisting the victims of the Akosombo dam spillage. He disclosed that GH¢80 million, part of the allocated GH¢220 million, had been disbursed to support ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the affected communities.

Despite the president’s assurance, Mr. Ablakwa, in an Eyewitness interview with Selorm Adonoo on Citi FM, expressed that he has not observed any tangible government initiatives for the victims. Nevertheless, he remains cautiously optimistic, hoping that the released funds will be effectively utilized for their intended purpose.

While welcoming the news, Mr. Ablakwa added a note of caution, citing past unfulfilled promises by the president. He emphasized the need to witness tangible results on the ground, stating, “It’s news we will welcome, but I will be cautious because of the track record of this government and hope that the announcement of the release of funds would translate on the ground.”
