The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has warmly welcomed Virgin Atlantic’s decision to resume operations in Ghana starting in May 2025.
Virgin Atlantic will become the 25th airline to operate out of Kotoka International Airport, with a daily flight schedule on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The airline’s return highlights the confidence in Ghana’s aviation industry and bolsters efforts to establish Ghana as the leading aviation hub in West Africa.
Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of GACL, expressed the company’s excitement on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff. “We are delighted to welcome Virgin Atlantic back to Ghana as the 25th international airline at Kotoka International Airport. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with Virgin Atlantic to ensure a smooth launch of their operations and continued support at the airport,” she said.
Mrs. Opare also mentioned that with the increasing number of airlines operating in Ghana, the board and management plan to optimize the use of Terminal 2 at Kotoka International Airport by accommodating more airlines there. This initiative aims to reduce congestion at Terminal 3, shorten queues, and improve the travel experience for both passengers and airlines.
Further details will be shared with the public after completing stakeholder consultations.
Virgin Atlantic’s return is expected to offer travelers more connectivity options, linking passengers from Ghana to various destinations worldwide.
