Anna Bjerde, the Managing Director for Operations at the World Bank, is scheduled to visit Ghana from July 12 to 15.

This visit marks Anna Bjerde’s first official trip to Ghana since assuming the position of Managing Director on April 3, 2023. Accompanying her will be Ousmane Diagana, the World Bank Vice President for Western and Central Africa.

During her visit, Anna Bjerde and her delegation will extend a courtesy visit to President Nana Akufo-Addo, fostering diplomatic relations between the World Bank and Ghana.

She will engage in high-level discussions with key government officials, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. These discussions will revolve around crucial aspects of the World Bank’s program in Ghana, such as macroeconomic issues, the energy sector, Ghana’s IMF program, debt restructuring, and significant structural reforms necessary for driving sustainable economic growth in the medium to long term.

Anna Bjerde will also visit various World Bank-financed projects in Ghana, including the Ghana Accountability and Learning Outcomes Project, the Ghana Tech Hub, and the Ghana Innovation Hub at the Accra Digital Center. These visits assess the progress and impact of these initiatives firsthand.

Since its establishment in 1957, the World Bank has maintained a presence in Ghana. The active portfolio is $3.6 billion, distributed across 21 ongoing projects.

This portfolio encompasses a wide range of sectors, with the most significant investments allocated to Urban Resilience and Land (17%), Health, Nutrition & Population (16%), Finance & Competitiveness (14%), Social Protection & Jobs (12%), and Digital Development (11%).
