During the May Day celebration in Bolgatanga, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed his government’s commitment to addressing Ghana’s current economic challenges. He mentioned they are working hard to complete all the required actions to get board approval from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Ghana’s $3 billion bailout request. The President also stated they had made significant progress on the debt exchange program and their engagements with bilateral creditors to secure the funding needed for the IMF program.
The President emphasized that finding lasting peace in the protracted Bawku ethnic conflict is his top priority. He assured Ghanaians that his government was working tirelessly to achieve this goal before the end of his tenure.
Meanwhile, the Trades Union Congress has suggested the government should convert the National Cathedral project into a national hospital. During the May Day parade, the Secretary-General of the TUC, Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, mentioned that a hospital would be more beneficial to Ghanaians than a cathedral. He suggested reducing the size of the government, stating that Ghana has too many ministers and deputy ministers.
