The Kumasi Traditional Council has issued a summons to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over alleged derogatory remarks he made concerning the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Council has instructed the NPP’s leadership to ensure Mr. Boasiako’s presence before them on the upcoming Monday to address comments he purportedly made during the screening of parliamentary candidates for Manhyia South.
To address the matter, the NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, accompanied by several regional party officials, visited the Manhyia Palace. The General Secretary pleaded with the Council, requesting a two-week extension to convince Chairman Wontumi to attend the meeting, citing his current illness.
Expressing their discontent, members of the Ashanti Kingdom clan within the council are angered by the reported comments made by Chairman Wontumi. Some Chiefs insist that Chairman Wontumi must appear before the Council, even if he requires the use of a wheelchair.
