Yvonne Nelson, a renowned Ghanaian actress, recently unveiled shocking details in her new book, ‘I am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ disclosing her decision to terminate a pregnancy involving popular rapper Sarkodie. This revelation came after a brief relationship in 2010, in which Sarkodie refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy.
The Sin City actress narrated the incident in Chapter 8, spanning pages 88-95 of her book, which was launched at Peduase Lodge on June 18. She recounted how she underwent a pregnancy test in the company of her friend Karen, fearing the outcome. When Karen revealed the test result, confirming her suspicions, Yvonne was taken aback by the gravity of the situation.
The actress conversed with Michael Owusu Addo, also known as Sarkodie, the man responsible for the pregnancy. Sarkodie was a rising musician, but uncertainties clouded his future, and he was not prepared to bear the responsibility of a child while still dependent on his mother. Yvonne described their relationship as not serious but admitted to growing closer because of their shared passion for music.
Yvonne Nelson, having grown up without a father and constantly reminded of her accidental birth, faced a critical decision when Sarkodie declined to keep the pregnancy. She pondered whether she should subject another human being to a life like hers, where the father would reject them, just as Mr. Nelson had rejected her. Ultimately, she spared someone else the potential trauma and proceeded with the abortion, a decision she now deeply regrets.
Reflecting on her past, Yvonne Nelson acknowledged that ending the pregnancy was one of the most regrettable mistakes of her life. She stated she would have kept the pregnancy if given the chance to turn back time.
