The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has revealed a marginal rise in road crashes during the initial two months of January and February 2024.
During the launch of the 2024 Road Safety Easter Campaign, the Director-General of the NRSA, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng, unveiled that there were 2,260 reported road accidents involving 3,910 vehicles. These incidents resulted in 369 fatalities, 2,552 injuries, and 381 pedestrian accidents in the aforementioned period.
Comparatively, for the same duration in the preceding year, there were 2,249 recorded cases involving 3,857 vehicles, resulting in 330 fatalities, 2,502 injuries, and 382 pedestrian accidents.
Ing. David Osafo Adonteng elaborated, stating, “This reflects a 0.49% increase in crashes, 1.37% increase in vehicles involved, and a 2.0% increase in persons injured. Notably, fatalities have risen by 11.82% when compared to the corresponding period in 2023.”
