Meteors

Ibrahim Tanko, the head coach of the Black Meteors, has announced a provisional squad of 29 players who will undergo an intensive training camp in Egypt ahead of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

On Monday, June 12, 2023, the team will depart from Ghana and travel to Egypt, where they will be stationed for a minimum of seven days before the tournament in Morocco begins.
The team has already started training in May and recently secured a 3-0 victory in a friendly match against Uncle T FC.
Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer and Kamaldeen Sulemana, among others, have received a call-up and are expected to join the team on June 18, 2023. Ernest Nuamah, Emmanuel Essiam, and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh are also part of the squad.
In Group A, the Black Meteors will compete against the host nation, Morocco, Guinea, and Congo.

Their first match in the tournament will be against Congo on June 25, followed by encounters with Morocco and Guinea on June 27 and June 30, respectively.

The finalists and the winner of the third-place playoff will secure qualification for the men’s football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The team that finishes fourth will participate in the AFC-CAF playoff to determine the final Olympic slot.
