Sarah Adwoa Safo, the NPP Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, has officially declared her intention to run again in the 2024 election. Adwoa Safo, who first entered Parliament in 2012, recently issued public apologies to the President, Vice President, and the NPP leadership for her actions that she believes had a negative impact on the party.

She had been absent for nearly a year, creating a vacancy both in Parliament and at the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, where she previously served as Minister. Speaking to journalists after touring her constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo confirmed that she had already informed the party of her decision to seek re-election, saying, “Politics is a game of numbers, and if it’s the will of God and the people want me, I will run again.”

The New Patriotic Party has expressed its approval of the public apology made by the MP. Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, viewed her apology positively and believed it contributed to the party’s image. He stated, “She has done something positive, and the party welcomes her apology.”

However, some NPP executives in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency have received Sarah Adwoa Safo’s apology with skepticism. The NPP constituency Secretary for Dome-Kwabenya, Theophilus Larbi, described her apology as habitual and expressed concerns that her re-election as the parliamentary candidate in the upcoming general elections could have a negative impact on the party’s prospects in the constituency.
