Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former aspirant for the position of flagbearer within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has tendered his resignation from the party. This decision is effective immediately, and Mr. Kyerematen intends to participate in the 2024 elections as an independent candidate.
As one of the founding members of the NPP, the former Trade Minister expressed his belief that the party he joined in 1992 has undergone significant changes and is no longer aligned with his vision.
In an address delivered in Accra on Monday, September 25, 2023, Mr. Kyerematen pledged to prioritize economic development, job creation, and social welfare if entrusted with the presidency. He explained that his choice to run as an independent candidate stemmed from his conviction that this approach would enable him to better serve the interests of the Ghanaian people.
His candidacy as an independent candidate presents a unique challenge to the established political order in Ghana and has the potential to reshape the country’s political landscape.
Mr. Kyerematen’s departure from the NPP and his decision to contest as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections mark a significant turning point in Ghanaian politics.
