Assin North By-Election: Parties Compete

assin

Currently, voting is in progress for the Assin North Parliamentary seat, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) fielding candidates. The vacancy arose after the Supreme Court unanimously declared the election of James Gyakye Quayson as the MP unconstitutional on May 17.

In a communication to the Electoral Commission, Parliament notified them of the vacant seat, which prompted the by-election. Both the NPP and NDC, as the major political parties, have actively campaigned in the constituency to sway voters and secure the seat, aiming to bolster their representation in the legislature. During Gyakye Quayson’s voting, the police apprehended an individual posing as military personnel at Assin Breku.

The arrest took place on Tuesday after earlier rumors about the person’s presence in a house. Despite the delayed police response, the imposter was eventually arrested when he entered the area during Gyakye Quayson’s voting period. At present, the police have issued no official statement regarding this incident.
