The qualifiers for the CAF 2025 AFCON have been set following the official draw for the competition.

The 2025 AFCON will take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. The tournament was initially scheduled for June and July next year, but significant changes to the CAF calendar necessitated a shift in dates.

Ghana has been drawn in Group F, alongside Sudan, Angola, and Niger. The top two teams at the end of a round-robin slate of games will automatically qualify for the competition.

There are 12 groups in total, and four-time African champions Ghana face a notable challenge against a Sudanese team coached by former Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah. Appiah, who won the AFCON in 1982 as a player, also led Ghana as a coach in the 2013 and 2019 AFCON tournaments, guiding the team to the semifinals and the round of 16, respectively.

Under Appiah’s leadership, Sudan currently leads Group B in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with 10 points from four games, ranking ahead of the 2021 AFCON champions, Senegal. Ghana previously defeated Angola to qualify for the 2023 AFCON, where the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage.
