Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), known as Chairman Wontumi, has reportedly received clearance from Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti Region regarding comments deemed derogatory towards Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

Following a visit to the Manhyia Palace, where Chairman Wontumi led a delegation of prominent NPP members, he has been advised to conduct himself with honor in public and refrain from drawing comparisons between the ruler of the Ashanti Kingdom and others.

During the visit, Chairman Wontumi denied engaging in any conflict with the Asantehene at the time the alleged remarks were made. The purpose of the delegation’s visit was to engage with the Kumasi Traditional Council and address concerns raised by the perceived derogatory statements.

Nana Kokosohene, the individual accusing Chairman Wontumi, purportedly received a warning not to introduce political matters to the Palace or intertwine politics with Chieftaincy affairs during the meeting.

The council emphasized the importance of avoiding disrespectful comparisons between the Asantehene and other individuals, as such actions could lead to misunderstandings and confusion.

This meeting holds significance for Chairman Wontumi, as the Kumasi Traditional Council had summoned him for an explanation regarding the alleged disparaging remarks. The order was issued after a confrontation between Chairman Wontumi and Nana Kwaku Dua (Kokosohene) during the recent screening of candidates for the Ashanti region’s parliament.

The NPP delegation is hopeful that Chairman Wontumi will have the opportunity to address the concerns raised by the traditional council during the meeting at the Manhyia Palace.
