There was a wave of excitement in Gambaga, located in the North East Region, as Vice President and Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ceremoniously broke ground for the construction of a contemporary sports complex this morning.
This project aims to provide state-of-the-art sports facilities for the youth of Gambaga and its surrounding areas, while also serving as a communal hub for the entire community.
Addressing the gathering at the sod-cutting ceremony, which drew a crowd of enthusiastic youth, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the significance of the Gambaga Sports Complex. He emphasized that upon completion, it would enable the youth to showcase their sporting talents and provide teams with a decent playing field.
Just a few months ago, Dr. Bawumia inaugurated another sports complex, the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex, which he personally constructed in Nelerigu for the benefit of the community and its environs.
The project contractor, Wembley Sports, has committed to completing the construction within five months, with funding provided by Ghana Gas. The facilities will include a 1000-seat grandstand, a VIP section, restrooms for teams and spectators, changing facilities, office spaces, among others.
Under the leadership of the Akufo-Addo government, over 150 astro turfs have been established across the country since assuming office in 2017. This marks a significant departure from the situation inherited, as prior to 2017, Ghana only had two public astro turfs.
The Gambaga Sports Complex will be the second astro turf and sports facility established by the government in the North East Region, following a similar initiative in Walewale four years ago.
