The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared that elections will take place in specific electoral districts on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, where ties were identified in the recently concluded District Level Elections (DLE).
The EC clarified that the results for assembly members were identical in 20 electoral areas, and in an additional 41 electoral areas, the unit committee race produced the same results.
Consequently, run-off elections will be conducted in these areas to resolve the ties and determine the winners, as stated in a release signed by Michael Boadu, the Electoral Commission’s acting head of public affairs.
The EC specified that the run-off elections will be held at every polling place in the electoral areas where ties were reported. Some of these areas include Effiduase West in the Ashanti Region, Bono [Adantia], Bono East [Bonya], Konya-Brehoma, Volta Region [Legba-Klikpko], and Eastern Region [Akwamufie, Awosoase].
The national district level elections faced certain challenges during the polling held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
