ECG Revenues Soar Digitally

Dr-Bawumia

During the 2023 National Development Conference hosted by the Church of Pentecost at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia provided insights into the remarkable revenue growth of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Before the digitization of ECG’s operations, the company had consistently generated GH¢450 million per month for four years.

However, this unchanging figure raised concerns, leading the government to investigate the revenue architecture of the company. Dr. Bawumia expressed disbelief at the stagnation of revenues despite an increase in customers. Upon closer examination, it was discovered that ECG staff thwarted a government team’s efforts to solve the problem using malware.

With the involvement of National Security, the issue was ultimately resolved, resulting in ECG’s monthly revenues soaring to GH¢1.2 billion. Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the government’s ongoing digitization agenda has significantly contributed to Ghana’s economic growth and reduced corruption.

Despite initial resistance to some digitization processes, such as the paperless port system, people are now more receptive, and the benefits have become clear. The Vice President emphasized that digitizing institutions will help combat corruption and improve services for citizens.

Reading a speech on behalf of President Akufo-Addo at the conference, Dr. Bawumia assured Ghanaians that the government is committed to bringing relief to the people and stabilizing the economy, particularly in the aftermath of the challenges posed by COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Dr. Bawumia praised the Church of Pentecost for organizing the conference, emphasizing that living morally upright lives plays a crucial role in national development, encouraging responsible behavior, including repaying loans. The event featured distinguished speakers, including the Speaker of Parliament, Chief Justice, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, former Minister of Women’s Affairs of Zimbabwe, and the Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam.
