A tragic accident at Gomoa Okyereko on the Kasoa–Winneba stretch of the N1 highway has reportedly claimed the lives of sixteen individuals. The fatalities occurred on the scene, while around forty others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured individuals have been admitted to hospitals for treatment. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 5 am on Tuesday when a petrol tanker collided head-on with a bus. The bus involved was a Yutong passenger bus with the registration GR 5866-L, traveling from Liberia to Accra. The fuel tanker, registered as WR 2063-10, was heading towards Takoradi.
A witness informed the Ghana National Fire Service that the Yutong bus driver had been consistently drifting out of his lane during the journey. The tanker driver unintentionally entered the Yutong’s lane, leading to the collision, as explained by the Winneba Fire Service Commander DO II.
