Five officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) have been suspended due to allegations of theft involving Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs).

These individuals have been handed over to the police to facilitate further investigation.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Electoral Services, provided this update regarding the missing devices. He emphasized the significance of involving the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter. Dr. Quaicoe reiterated the Commission’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that those responsible for stealing state assets face appropriate consequences.

“We have reported the loss of one BVD in North Tongu. These devices are typically packaged in ballot boxes, sealed, and transported. Unfortunately, during transport, the ballot boxes couldn’t be moved. We promptly reported the incident to the police, providing information about the suspects for investigation and legal action,” Dr. Quaicoe explained.

He confirmed that the individuals involved have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigations. Legal proceedings are expected to commence shortly.
